CENTRALINA WDB PRESS RELEASE
A MESSAGE FROM THE CENTRALINA WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD REGARDING OUR NCWORKS CAREER CENTERS AND COVID-19
March 19, 2020
The COVID-19 virus has significantly impacted everyone in the Centralina Workforce Development Board (WDB) region. Our lives are now virtually on hold. We are well aware of the disruptions that COVID-19 is causing with schools and businesses closed and the impact that this is having on our hard-working citizens and our local employers.
The Centralina Workforce Development Board and our local NCWorks Career Centers having been working directly with people in our communities especially those who have limited resources, options and access. We are committed, as always, to be the resource for people in their time of need.
In order to balance that commitment to service with the need to promote health, we will close the NCWorks Career Centers in the Centralina WDB region to the general public beginning at 12:00 Noon on Thursday March 19, 2020. During this time, the NCWorks Career Centers will still operate, but we will take exclusively virtual appointments. Customers may also call the centers directly to seek assistance. We do not have an estimated date yet as to when the centers will reopen to the public.
We encourage everyone in our community to follow health/safety guidelines to minimize the risk of spreading the virus:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Practice good hand washing (20 seconds or more with warm water and soap).
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your elbow.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
- Stay home when you are sick.
The Centralina Workforce Development Board region is strong and resilient. As the first multi- county regional workforce board in North Carolina, we have faced many difficult situations, both natural and manmade, over the years. We have a strong work ethic, great partnerships, and the will to do good. We firmly believe that we will overcome this virus and be a better region. The Centralina WDB and our local NCWorks Career Centers are ready to help in any way that we can. Together, we will conquer this!
To file for unemployment benefits, please remember that it is not necessary to visit or call an NCWorks Career Center. Instead, please visit www.des.nc.gov or call 888-737-0259.
